A day at the "beach"

Much like growing up and thinking the beach meant Spenard Lake, "beach" to Madelyn means String Lake up in the Park. About 100 times more scenic, clean, and quiet than Spenard Lake:) We were a bit late meeting friends up there, but caught the Lewis fam just before they departed in their canoe...

Here's M checking out the water...

We came home to a fire truck in the neighborhood. Madelyn and I had to go check it out, of course (current fascination with big trucks!). It turned out that a pipe in one of the neighboring townhouses burst and the fire department was called in. Lots of action with hoses, pumps, people in fire hats, and neighborhood dogs... Madelyn thought it was GREAT!

Great picture

MHK has been home for the last few days with a stomach bug...but, in between bouts, she seems to feel great (look at that smile!). I think tomorrow she'll finally be able to head back to daycare.

Ladie's hike

Went on another fantastic "ladie's hike" today with Margot, Jean, and Hatilie today. We headed East to Sleeping Indian and attempted to make it to the "belly." Once we gained a little elevation, we ran into some really COLD and windy weather, graupel, and stunning views of the Gros Ventres and Tetons. What a different world the GV side of the valley is - completely different rock formations and terrain! We turned back just short of the summit - way too windy and cold for this lady to make it up any higher. Hatilie scattered some of Diego's ashes (her beloved dog), and we headed back down to warmer weather.

I found this great photo of Sleeping Indian for those who have never seen it (no, no snow sticking today!):

Big Townie Weekend

This is a big weekend in Jackson... the Pallet Pallet (art walk with great food at each stop!), Old Bill's Fun RUn/Walk, last Farmers Market... lots of socializing, and great causes. This evening we hit a few of the galleries - it's always such a madhouse, so we "home based" out of the town square and had a picnic. Here's M. finishing off the last of the goods! Lots of little people friends running around everywhere, Madelyn was in heaven!

Our tomato plant is ripening the last 2 tomatoes, and the bird-feeder stray sunflowers are all starting to bloom. Here's M with a few in a pot on the porch.

A random, but funny story from yesterday - Maddie and I were making a giant block tower and I said "let's knock it down...!" Madelyn immediately started knocking on the side of the blocks like you would on a door:) I forget what literal creatures we all start out as! And how tricky the English language really is!?

A trip to Cody!

This weekend we made a quick trip through Yellowstone and to Cody where our friends Dave, Emmy, and Molly live! It was great to see everyone, and to finally see Emmy and Dave's not-so-new community and home. The girls had loads of fun playing together, practicing their sharing, cheering each other on in the bathroom, 'swimming,' and general silliness. We ended up driving back Sunday night because Madelyn was having a tough time sleeping... one night is bearable, but two nights in a row was too much to think about!

Thanks for a great visit Emmy and Dave!

Veg Delivery

Yesterday was the first Friday I was at school rather than in the garden, but Dick was kind enough to pack up a beautiful box of veg for me. I set it down on the porch and Madelyn was on it like white on rice!? She took a nibble of just about each individual item in the box!
