bring on the 3 year olds

The season of 3-year-olds is upon us! Last week we went to our friend Lucas' birthday party at the gymnastics place - so much fun! Madelyn especially loved the trampolines (yes, LOTS of trampolines!) This weekend we're celebrating Grady's 3rd birthday (and hopefully Michael's too), and next weekend will be Madelyn's "party."

This weekend we're celebrating Grady's 3rd birthday (and hopefully Michael's too), and next weekend will be Madelyn's "party."

Madelyn's new bed arrived a few days ago... the bed was a BIG hit, as was the box it came in! Here is Madelyn and Michael in their space ship during blast-off.

After taking down Madelyn's old crib, rearranging a bit, her room seems infinitely bigger (which is good because the extra space will quickly be filled by #2!)

Yesterday we decorated Madelyn's bed so that it was fancy... we made dragonflies, hung butterflies, and some fancy ribbons on the side. "Ooh-la-la" she says!

Sushi and snowboarding

Madelyn and I were inspired by a pot of leftover rice one afternoon, and created a sushi party (Madelyn says, "shushi"). She loves the event of going to a sushi restaurant, but generally entertains herself with edamame, miso soup, and rice balls, but has avoided sushi proper. Here are a few pictures/video of her first true taste of a California roll.

And, here's a clip of little Ms. Imagination going "snowboarding"....

Snow Play

We've had some fun snow time in the last week or so. Mike convinced Madelyn that she would really like to try skiing. She was excited about renting the gear, trying on the boots, but when it came to hitting the slope, she was pretty hesitant to even get near her skis. After finally convincing her that all skiers got hot chocolate after practicing, she was ready to give it one shot. She asked for hot chocolate at the end of all 3 bunny slope runs, and at that point we called it a day.

Today Madelyn and I hopped the bus to the town square where some snow sculpting has taken place over the weekend. Madelyn reported that her favorite sculpture was the bison (not pictures), but she also thoroughly enjoyed the car and swan chair.

Braids, Primulas, and Valentines!

It's been a few weeks - we've been mighty busy!

Some deep freeze (26 below!) and spring thaw days... Lisa seems to luck out with Fridays - they seem to be bright, sunny, and warm, perfect for Lisa to XC ski with the Kelly students!

Madelyn and Michael are geared up to try the rope tow at Snow King (gear, but haven't tried yet) Lots of talk about hot chocolate afterwards.. a little carrot on a stick never hurt!

A Martin Sexton concert at the Center for the Arts, while Madelyn had a party with one of her favorite teachers/babysitters

Dinner parties with just the ladies (Madelyn, Mama, and Aunty Margot... and we let Baby Angus come too)

Primulas from Grandma Jude arrived today (see pictures and movie)

Started making our Valentines cards for Monday (see movie)

Madelyn has started occasionally asking for braids in her hair! A clip is a minor miracle at this point in the game, so we're thrilled with the braid idea (see pictures)!

Hockey Fan!

Well, it appears Madelyn is a hockey fan! We went to see the JH Ladies' team last night - we have a few friends who play. Madelyn watched the full game, and wanted to stay for another! Who can tell if it's the action, the skating, the bleachers, the clapping and cheering... any way around it, we had a hard time getting her to go home! So, we came back for the championship game this morning, and brought Pete and Leah. Here's Madelyn busy being Robin's number one fan, and playing at the top of the bleachers (where it's really fun- wobbly, even for people with no body mass)! Also the latest belly picture, 18 weeks.

Whoa!

All is well in JH. After the huge december snowfall, January has been light. We have had some really warm days and we are enjoying the sunshine and trying to get out as much as possible. Michael has been out snowboarding at the big mountain and the town mountain of Snow King. Lis has been skate skiing a few times a few blocks away on town groomed track.

Lisa has been feeling good, she is 17 weeks along and we go in for a check-up on Tuesday. Madelyn and Michael are coming as well so Maddie can hear the babes heartbeat! She is very excited to say the least.

We have also begun a new winter gathering. Fridays for Pizza at a local spot called Betty Rock. They have the best Pizza in town and it's easy with kids, the place is usually filled with little people, as parents all have the same idea. The last few weeks it has been a good ending to the week and beginning of the weekend. Last friday we had the Angstroms, Windors and our little clan. It was fun to have Angus (3 months), Levi (10 Months) and Maddie as the big kid of the group hang out...as well lots of other little people playing.

Here is some footage of Michael and Maddie from Friday AM before we went to school..Michael was making breakfast and Maddie was doing a project that involved almost every toy and game within reach.

pony Express for the Haspelas!

Madelyn found a new fun friend at Browse the other day - her very own horse! And better yet, it fits in the closet!:) She's been riding it around the house at all hours, and her latest adventure includes delivering mail to friends on horseback. Here she is delivering a package to Hazel in Hood River...

We had a great time with Leah today - Leah is a new big sister! Here are the girls sipping water at lunch today, sharing a chair of course, because they couldn't decide who would get the highchair.

And, Madelyn sporting the christmas cactus bloom (singular) in her hair last week. It added a tropical flair to the house for a short while.
