Dinner chat

Madelyn pulled her chair up to the dinner table and added plenty to the conversation tonight...!

Big discoveries

Today Madelyn accidently found her foot! And was enthralled! I can only imagine - I mean really, when was the last time you discovered anything so huge in your life as an unknown appendage!? She has also just started blowing raspberries, to the tune of the letter "B" - we had an entire conversation of raspberries with each other this afternoon. Let the slobber fly!

Madelyn has also discovered her "cry," which I am not as thrilled about as her other recent discoveries. She likes to try it out when she wakes up, when she needs to sleep, and random times in between. And, after much progress in the nighttime sleep department, Maddie has reverted to her infant schedule, waking every 3 hours all day and night. Feels a little like moving backwards.

I found a great quote on the matter in "Operating Instructions" by Anne Lamott (a great, witty book about her son's first year). "Backwards is just as rich as forward if you can appreciate the circle instead of the direction." We'll have to keep that in mind:)

Social Butterflies

We've had a busy few days - Mikey M came for a visit; a Japanese sister-city celebration in town with Mikey and Lindsay; Andrea and Tim's (pre)wedding celebration BBQ (featuring LOTS of babies!?); a memorial for Chris H; a gathering to toast Tina S and her time in JH before her big move back to NY; Cornhole back in the Kelly 'hood; and tonight, horseshoes in the park with Pete, Anne, and Leah. Many things to celebrate and honor - lives well lived, weddings, new adventures, and great friends. A few pictures of it all...

Madelyn tells about her day

Madelyn had a great day... she ran errands in her carrier around town with mom, took a long nap, read dragon books, and spent the evening with lots of Aunties and Uncles at Jean and Jason's house. Owen tried to give Maddie lessons on how to suck her thumb, and shared his super-hero cape with her when the evening cooled off. But don't take my word for it, listen to Madelyn share all of the details in the video above!

What is Maddie up to?

At 12 weeks, Madelyn is just a tad over 10 pounds. She's been grasping objects, holding her head up (mostly), and starting to use her arms to push up from her belly. Madelyn has also mastered the quarter turn, and is trying to figure out how to roll over her arm to get onto her stomach (still a total mystery.) Our friend Anne just passed along a chair that we can put Madelyn into - she is starting to notice more of the world around her and is enjoying a bit of a view these days. And, sleeping like a champ...she is half Lowenfels, after all!

Back to "work"

Madelyn accompanied Lisa this week as she headed back to work (ultra part time) at the knit shop. It was great for Lisa to break up the days and to get a little more adult conversation time. Not to mention, it keeps Lisa with knitting benefits! Here's a picture of Maddie on her first lunch break.
